Measuring a swimming pool for a pool safety net

The imaginary rectangle

Whatever shape your pool is, it has to fit inside a rectangle. Every inch of water must be covered — Roman ends, step-outs, beach entries and spas all have to sit inside that imaginary rectangle. Placing the whole pool inside the rectangle, use a measuring tape to measure from the inside coping edge (the water’s edge) to the corresponding coping edge for the maximum length and the maximum width.

Measure the inside wall of your pool. The same method applies to every shape: rectangular, rectangular with a left step, rectangular with a step not at the end, Roman, oval, kidney, freeform, and kidney with a spa.

Elevation changes

Note the height of any change in elevation — a raised spa, a wall, a raised beam. If the elevation exceeds 18 inches, add that additional measurement to your final rectangle’s measurement to allow for the rise in the net. If for any reason the anchors are to be mounted outside the coping, include that additional measurement too.

Note the features

It helps us a great deal if you mark up anything else around the pool: diving boards, ladders, handrails, waterfalls, planters, rocks and steps. If a shape or feature cannot be covered properly, we will tell you before we quote.

Katchakid pool safety barriers are supplementary pool safety aids, and not a substitute for the undivided and competent supervision of an adult. A Katchakid pool safety barrier can never replace adult supervision, nor can it be a guarantee against drowning or other accidents. No barrier is childproof, and none replaces close, constant adult supervision. Always put the barrier back on after every swim.
