Worcester Pool Covers, Nets & Fences
Worcester Pool Covers, Nets & Fences
Worcester is a beautiful city outside of Boston, and has some incredible public parks, one of which was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, the notable designer of Central Park in New York amongst others. There are also plenty of museums to visit, and other things to do as well. But if you prefer to stay near your home while still getting some exercise, swimming in your own residential pool can be great! Yet having your own residential pool comes with a lot of responsibility, one of which is to keep up-to-date with local and state laws in regards to pool safety.
The City of Worcester doesn’t have any specific laws when it comes to private pool signage and fencing, but an important thing to remember is that you still need to follow state law, and in this case, that is Massachusetts.
The state of Massachusetts formed their laws on private pool regulation based on the International Residence Code. This includes needing to have some sort of fence or fence around the swimming pool. The pool fence can be solid or have openings, but there are specifications for both. For example, solid fences may not have any indentations, and fences with openings can only have openings of a certain size. There’s a rule that applies to both, and that is that a sphere of 4 inches in diameter cannot inter one of the openings.
All fences that surround the swimming pool need to have some sort of gate, and the gate needs to have a lock when not in use. The gate also needs to be self-closing and self-latching. When you are setting up your swimming pool, or hot tub, or spa next to your home, many people decide to use one of the walls of their home as side of the fence. In this case, there needs to an alarm fastened to the door that is used for exiting the home, or there needs to be a proper pool cover over the pool when it’s not in use. In the situation of an above-ground pool, the walls around the pool could be considered a fence in some cases, but the ladder that allows one to enter into the pool needs to be stored or locked away when it’s not in use.
