A fence works as a barrier when it can enclose the pool on all sides, so the layout of your yard matters more than the pool itself.
It usually suits properties with a continuous route around the pool, firm ground to set the poles into, and enough space between the fence line and the water. The 2024 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code specifies a minimum 20-inch distance between the inside of a removable mesh fence and the nearest edge of the water.
It is often harder where the deck runs right to the water’s edge, where there are waterfalls, rockeries, raised spas or planting in the fence line, or where the ground moves enough over time to pull gate latches out of alignment.

Yes. The panels lift out of sleeves set into the deck or ground, so sections can be removed for a party or for the season and replaced afterwards. The barrier only exists while the fence is up and the gate is closed.
A fence only works while it is complete and the gate is shut and locked. A 2016 Safe Kids Worldwide review of pool drownings where a barrier had been breached found the failures fell into two groups.
The fence itself — a gap in the fence line, a damaged panel, insufficient height, or a child climbing it.
The gate — propped open, failed to latch, or closed but not locked with the key.
Both are avoidable, and both come down to upkeep rather than the product. We fit self-closing, self-latching, key-lockable gates for that reason. Check the latch catches cleanly every time, and check it again after any ground movement or landscaping near the fence line — a latch that has drifted out of alignment looks shut but is not.
